This is an FDA approved and proven technique that involves the use of computerised visual exercises. Each exercise takes about 30 minutes and needs to be performed about 3 times per week for 8-10 weeks.
Tests have shown that it works well in a number of situations such as low degrees of myopia (up to about -1.5), and for patients who have just started wearing reading glasses and want to put off the need for a bit longer. Patients after laser vision correction and who have a small residual refraction (but don't want or aren't suitable for additional laser treatment) can benefit from such exercises. It is also particularly good for certain forms of amblyopia (lazy eye) for improving vision even in adults in whom it was previously thought that nothing could be done.
Exercises are individualised for each patient after initial assessment, and can be performed on your own computer at home, and effects are long lasting even after you stop the exercises (like learning to ride a bicycle). Research has shown that specific visual exercises have the effect of training the visual part of the brain to interpret blurry visual information more efficiently, in the presence of low glasses prescriptions or lazy eyes.
