The annual "Advanced Course in Contact Lens fitting" for Optometrists is currently taking place in Israel, and Dr Fink was invited this week to deliver a lecture entitled "Dry Eyes and Contact Lenses".
Dr Fink outlined the latest research in the field together with advances in treatment of this frustrating condition. About 30% of patients who attend eye clinics complain of dry, gritty eyes, and treatment has come a long way in recent times, although many patients still receive no more than a bottle of artificial tears which often doesn't help much. Dry eyes is also the commonest reason that patients stop wearing their contacts, and consider laser vision correction.
